Can I ask an officer about gears and weapons they use?

I'm a university student from South korea planning to go Florida as exchange student.

I love guns and gears that police officers use, so I always wanted to ask some questions to actual US police officers.

can I do this type of questions? if it's rude, I will never try, but if not I really want to.

I love playing airsoft games because I dont have any chance to touch actual functional firearms unless there's reserve forces training because i already finished my mandatory military service.
