a bit of background info my best friend, we will call her hattie, has been with her ( older )bf , james, for almost a year now but he has some perks, he is extremely petty with her and very controlling. for example, he gets mad if she goes out with her friends and doesn’t respond, isn’t aloud to drink without him being there, isn’t aloud to wear certain clothing ect. however, the other day me and hattie went into our local town just hanging out doing a bit of shopping, as we went too walk around a bit past outside the town there are 2 teenage boys walking behind us, we ignore them but hattie texts james telling him that they are there, they then start shouting at us calling us “tarts” “mummy” and start speeding up their walking pace, we go round a corner luckily them going a different way but then james calls hattie.

he’s shouting at her for “walking the same way as them” and starts saying we probably asked for it. He then goes to hatties house before we even get back and as soon as we get in he starts saying that we asked for it so as i do i say to him “ you think i want to get followed by teenage boys out of my will being called weird names?” for him to respond with “ yeah you might do seeming as you like male attention” i then call him a freak and he has no respect for hattie to sit there and just agree with james.

i then leave and don’t talk to either of them for the whole weekend, am i the asshole in this situation?
