Am I over qualified to go back to being an apprentice electrician?

I’ve been doing maintenance for 8 years for a pharma company that would not send anyone for blocks even though I worked under a journeyman electrician for 5 years there. I have a ton of electrical experience, especially troubleshooting.

So I recently moved to a maintenance planning role to try and move my way up in my career and I hate it. Can’t stand being at the desk all day. So I want to get back to a more physical job and finally get my electrical blocks finished. I had my block 2 from doing residential before getting into maintenance. So I just need 2 more blocks and I could get all the hours signed off by the electrician I worked with for 5 years.

I’ve been applying for about a month and a half to electrical companies. I went for 1 interview weeks ago but no reply. Another interview I’m hoping to hear back from this week that does more commercial and automation.

I thought I could find an apprentice job easier to be honest. With my experience in maintenance and troubleshooting, I thought that would be really desirable but I’m starting to wonder if they would see me as overqualified for apprenticeship. That they might have reservations about taking someone who’s been working in clean, indoor environments and at the desk for several years, that I might not want to get dirty. Or that they might want someone as an apprentice for longer to do the grunt work. Maybe I’m coming off too motivated to get apprenticeship done?

Maybe I should simplify my resume with less technical stuff, systems I’ve worked on, experience with documentation. And add more of the experience wiring and things I’ve built.

I dont know, maybe I’m getting in my own head and getting impatient that I haven’t got anything yet.
