Fishing tips for new waters please

I’m going to try out lymm dam in Warrington if anyone has any tips for me. I want to throw out a carp rod (pva and wafters) and a deadbait float rod for pike. Does anyone know of any spots on the dam to fish or what I should be aiming for ? Any advise helps
