Are construction decisions ever really documented properly?
In construction, I don’t think the real issue is misunderstanding.
Most of the time, the problem is that decisions are never properly captured in the first place.
They happen in:
- quick site conversations
- calls
- WhatsApp messages
- informal approvals
But there’s no single place where that decision is clearly recorded, structured, and tied to responsibility.
Later, when something goes wrong, people don’t “disagree” randomly —
they just rely on different fragments of what they remember or saw.
And since nothing was formally fixed, it turns into:
“we didn’t agree on this”
“this wasn’t the instruction”
“this wasn’t my responsibility”
Curious how you handle this in your projects:
Do you have a reliable way to capture and track actual decisions on-site?
