Lost 27kg on Mounjaro. The rebound phase broke me. So I built something.
I've been on Mounjaro for about a year. Lost 27kg. Started tapering two months ago and nobody warned me how different the rebound phase would actually feel.
The medication suppresses appetite so effectively that food decisions almost stop being decisions. You think you're building habits. You're not. You're borrowing willpower from the drug. When you taper, everything comes back at once — the hunger, the uncertainty, the decision fatigue at the worst possible moments.
I knew I needed guidance. A real nutritionist was the obvious answer — but that comes with real limitations. You can't message them at 1am when a craving hits. And honestly, I noticed I was holding back. Slip-ups, moments of weakness, eating things I shouldn't have — I couldn't be fully open about those things with another person. I was editing myself. Which meant the advice I was getting was based on an incomplete picture.
So I turned to Gemini. Set up a detailed prompt, started having daily conversations. It actually worked — I built real micro-habits, navigated difficult meals, stopped the spiral thinking. No judgment, available at any hour, and I could be completely honest about everything.
But it had one fundamental problem: I had to keep everything in the same conversation for it to remember me. As weeks passed and the conversation grew, it started hallucinating — mixing up days, misremembering what I'd eaten, confusing yesterday with last week. Not sustainable.
So I built something properly. A companion with real memory architecture — it knows my last 7 days of conversations, tracks my patterns and triggers, carries context across sessions without losing it. I'm a designer, not a developer, so this took longer than I'd like to admit. But I built it for myself first and I've been using it actively for months.
What I actually needed wasn't a nutrition app. It was something I could talk to at the exact moment a decision was happening. Family dinner — describe the table, get a specific answer. Office lunch with bad options — figure out the path in seconds. 11pm craving spiral — get reframed without judgment and told exactly what to do next. All of it with full awareness that I'm on GLP-1 and tapering.
The micro-habit angle turned out to be the most surprising part. Small, specific, achievable guidance at the right moment compounds over time. Two months in, my relationship with food decisions is genuinely different.
