New to Gen IV. What's a decent HG team?

I'm not looking for the most OP team in the game, but a well rounded team that goes hard. I like big beefy boys and I looked at the Johto pokemon list and a lot of them are uh... too cute? Tyranitar looks the coolest at first glance.

I'm a red/firered baby at heart, I've played through gen 1 probably 10 times. I plan on only using Johto pokemon for Heart Gold. No first Gen mons unless they evolve (I'm ok playing onix to get to steelix).

I definitely want the lightning dog and one of the new eeveelutions, they seem cool.

My starter is cyndaquil so I got fire types covered.
