My husband dresses exactly the same as he did in college and it's starting to affect how I see him

Seeking Advice

I feel terrible even typing this but I need to say it somewhere. My husband is 41 and he dresses exactly, and I mean EXACTLY, the same way he did when we met in college. Same style of cargo shorts. Same graphic tees. Same beat up sneakers. The same hoodie he has literally owned since 2007.

I love this man. He's a great dad, a great partner, and a genuinely good person. But I'm watching all our friends evolve and grow and put effort into how they present themselves and he's frozen in 2005.

I've tried hinting. I've tried buying him things. I've tried the "let's go shopping together" approach. He either doesn't wear what I buy, or he comes home from the mall with another graphic tee and cargo shorts because "it's what's comfortable."

The hard truth that I feel guilty admitting is that it's starting to affect my attraction. Not because I need him in designer clothes but because the complete lack of effort feels like he's stopped trying. For himself, for us, for how he moves through the world.

Has anyone successfully helped their partner update their style without making them feel attacked? Or am I being superficial for caring about this?
