Had a debate about paying for a 1k laptop over a cheap car

I had an interesting debate earlier today about me paying over 1k for my MacBook laptop. You hear the remarks like - "You could have bought a car with that!" My rebuttal always is and will be - "What car are you going to buy with 1 grand? A shitbox with constant problems".

I feel this statement stands true more so now and you're looking at least 5k for a used car nowadays that isn't a shitbox.

I guess people just have to constantly compare your purchases with what you could have bought. My MacBook is fast and helps with my productivity mate. I'd happily use public transport with my laptop than drive around in a shitbox that'll cost me more in repairs overtime than the laptop.
