Don’t know how to feel about backlash against Ye but not against gangster rap in general.
As we all know Ye over the past couple of years has been saying the craziest shit anyone can imagine about blacks, Jews, women, and kids. Even made a song called Heil Hitler. Made shirts with swatiskas, etc. He pretty much lost every major deal imaginable. Which makes sense. I myself have lost a lot of respect for him. However, apart of me feels like I and everyone else is a hypocrite. I’ll tell you why.
Rap in a general sense has been a more negative than positive influence on black people and culture. A large portion of rap promotes killing black men, misogyny, violence against women, sleeping with other black men’s wives and girlfriends, drug use, broken families, etc. We even now have gotten rappers talking about actual murders they committed in song. All the major labels and brands is A OK with this. No gangster rappers have been banned from festivals, lost major deals, etc.
So is it hypocritical to ban Ye but be ok with all thr gangster rappers promoting negativity that has had an overall negative effect on black people?
Or is it ok, since it is more imagination (and giving the labels the benefit of the doubt that they may have been unaware that some of the rap lyrics about murder we’re describing actual events), while Ye was speaking from a more literal perspective?
