LVP too close to wall, can contractor cut pieces while the are installed, or should they be removed first?

Title says it all. Baseboards going in soon, and I noticed areas all over a large house that are missing a 1/4 gap near the wall or other points of contact. Talking to contractor today, I want suggestions from y’all!
