Negotiating and deferring

Negotiation/Finances

I was accepted to Temple with a lower than expected scholarship ($33795). So far my other offers were 120k at American and I'm still waiting to hear back from Nova and Drexel - I think I should get a decent scholly at Drexel.

Here's the thing - I left my old firm in March for a new paralegal role at a much smaller firm where I have many more responsibilities in litigation and trial prep. I also work closely under the managing partner. During the interview, when asked about law school, I said "eventually" pretty much. It was wrong for me in the beginning to not be clear, i guess I was a bit blinded by the money as I am from a low income background and am trying to finance law school independently. Now that I'm in this job and they have invested a lot of time in me I feel shitty about having to leave in four months. That's when I started thinking about deferring to save up more money, but I have a lot of concerns.

- How much am I jeopardizing my current scholarship at Temple?

- Should I try negotiating my Temple scholarship before I tell them I want to defer?

- Should I wait for potential Drexel/Nova decisions before I contact Temple?

- Should I pay my first Temple seat deposit (they do it in two rounds) then negotiate, then defer?

- What are the cons of deferring a year? Is it worth it to not burn the bridge at my current role? It's not the type of law I want to do but I do find it interesting and morally aligned.

Is anyone else thinking of deferring for financial reasons?
