Recertify income while spouse is unemployed?
I'm currently on SAVE forbearance with grad school loans and I'm about 3 years out on my 25yr forgiveness. My wife was laid off from work last year and has zero income now that she's exhausted her unemployment benefits. I'm going to convert over to old IBR soon to get the clock restarted, but I'm wondering if we can certify our income based on our current situation with her at zero? Our 2025 returns will show her being employed for part of the year, but it would nice to have a lower payment for now before it goes back to normal (hopefully) on next year's recert. We paid off her loans years ago, so it's just mine we're dealing with.
