I feel betrayed by my friends but I guess it is my own fault

I live in a small town, and I live with family, so I am putting up a front of being a good Christian girl.

I am not an activist for anything, so being an atheist is my own personal business.

Two of my close friends are genuine Christians, the kind who go to church, do good deeds and try to make the world a better place..... They think I am a Christian too, but for one thing - I don't go to church.... except when my mom asks nicely, like on Easter Friday.

Well, there we are after the service having coffee and a chat, all very nice. Until they both started with 'are we seeing you on Sunday again?'

I joked and said that they should know by now that I am not a church goer and laughed a little, keeping it light.

Then they started with, we will organize an intervention. Joke. Joke. Joke.

But it left a bad taste in my mouth. I feel betrayed, because why are they now acting all condescending and judgemental about my choices???? After all these years?

Have they only been friends because they wanted to 'save' me?

To avoid them will be difficult, because we share similar interests. I will just have to get over it.

My wish is to find friends with whom I can just be myself. It can be tiring to put up a front all the time. No wonder I prefer being alone most of the time.
