AITAH For questioning if I should still be friends with my best friend of 10 years after a shopping trip?
For context me (28f) my best friend also (28f) went shopping yesterday evening. We went to a place called Boot barn they have what I suppose you could call western attire. I work on my farm during the summer when I have no help and needed a new pair of boots. My best friend well call her Jenny had asked to come along, I said sure but assured her that I was only buying a new pair of boots for myself NOONE ELSE (I’m on a tight budget and need to be saving money) I usually take her out for a treat with me and will buy her something but I wear Ariat boots and only those because it’s just my preference they’re typically ranging from 200-300$ which right now again I’m on a tight budget can’t spend much so I came for my pair of boots and that’s all. This is where I started questioning we were looking at some options because she’s been talking about getting a pair of boots which I’m like awesome,I’ll help you look (this would be her first pair of boots) we start looking and she finds a pair in which are a bit pricey and whatever because I’m thinking she has her wallet so I go look at the boots I had my eye on I end up seeing her come around the corner and she looks at me and says “come on you don’t need those you already have a pair of decent boots on” I said “they make look decent but they are starting to get worn out and I am 28 and can decide if I need/want a new pair of boots” so she grabs my arm and says hey come look what I found i was like okay I guess… we walk over to where she had found the boots she liked and said “you should buy them for me since I didn’t bring any cash and I don’t have my cards plus I have like no money right now so” I replied with “ I told you I cannot spend any more money than what these boots are that I’m about to buy” she gives me a smug look and walks away so I go back over to the boots I had been looking at and picked them up to try them on and I loved them so I bought them! They’re absolutely stunning but that’s not the point their simply work boots that I had needed to work on the farm. Then I tell her hey we need to go I have to make dinner come on please and she hurry’s and comes out to my car. We get in the car and the entire way home she’s silent and as we’re pulling up to her house I said “ hey what’s wrong?” she replies with. “ Well I thought it was pretty shitty of you not to buy those boots for me in boot barn when you always buy me something when we go shopping.” I reply with. “ I am not your mother. You are 28 years old. I’m not responsible for buying you stuff all the time. I simply do it to be nice.” She gets out of the car with an attitude and walks away she hasn’t texted or called since since. I tried to call her this morning and she answered then I said hey, what are you doing today thinking that the steam had already blown off since it’s been a night and I had figured that everything was okay. she then replies with “ I’m busy today. I don’t think I’m gonna be able to do anything and hangs up.” usually she wouldn’t say anything remotely like that. After that, I asked my mother what she thought of this situation. She said this is unacceptable and that I should probably either talk to her about it or let her get over it and then let her talk to me. I told my mother the only things that I have bought her in the past year have been in a owalla cup for Christmas and a few things here and there when we were out that we’re just basic little things like Starbucks or Dunkin basic things that a friend would pay for my mother thinks that this is disrespectful the way that she treated me because they were $200 boots plus the tax on them would’ve came to about 250 because they were about 225 and I can’t decide if I was the asshole or not so Reddit please help.
Sorry for not spacing. I’m using a mobile device and I’m at work.
