LVP too close to wall, can contractor cut back the pieces while they are installed, or should they be removed first?

Title says it all. Baseboards going in soon, and I noticed areas all over a large house that are missing a 1/4 gap near the wall or other points of contact. LVP is 7 mm with a pad. Talking to contractor today, I want suggestions from y’all!
