Check Your Sound - Friendly Advice

DISCUSSION

Hey, guys. I wanted to just put this here for you. My personal experience this week. (There will be a tl;dr at the bottom if you don't want to read my word wall lol)

I do different things on my channel, but I'm talking about livestreaming here. I livestream to YouTube (and others) and I've been doing it since July. I get folks. Sometimes I have folks who watch and don't speak, or they speak and then go quiet to watch, and sometimes I have chatters that are hard to keep up with. Pretty normal. Nothing to worry about. I'm growing - yay!

My sound is great. There is nothing wrong with it. I'm so awesome, blah blah blah...

HOWEVER...

This last week I was researching something, and I came across this YouTuber who does 'Masterclass' videos on OBS, sound, cameras, stream settings, and all things livestream. I went through his video on how to get the 'perfect' sound, and guess what? My sound until then still wasn't great! I only thought it was!

It sounded great to me when I checked the vods. My viewers, even when asked, said my sound was fine. Which it was. But it wasn't GREAT. I did some changes in my settings before I streamed on Saturday. Suddenly my mods are telling me, 'Oh, that sounds so much better!' But before, they said my sound was FINE.

I got more new folks to come in, stay, and sub. Nothing else really changed, so I can only assume that the sound being improved is why. So even though my sound was FINE, it wasn't GREAT, and I still had folks come in and leave without telling me why, or even saying hi.

Yes, that's still going to happen. Yes, none of us is the right channel for ALL viewers. None of us is going to appeal to everyone. But I tell you, it was a big improvement on how many new folks I got who stayed.

I just wanted to put that out there, in case any of you have sound that is FINE, or GOOD, but not GREAT. The only way to know for sure, it seems, is to research, research, research, and implement improvements. Happy creating - You can do this - Keep at it - You're awesome!

tl;dr: Your sound might be fine, or good, but you need it to be GREAT, even if you think it already is. :)
