terminated with severance

hi all,

I was recently terminated after 8 years of employment. I got 4 months of severance which will be paid in 8 pay periods. I did a bit of research (I tried, I promise!) and this is what I think my next moves on the UI front should be:

- apply for unemployment 7 days after my last day of employment

- take the weekly quiz

- let the state of ny decide based on my accurate quiz info when they think it's time to kick in the UI.

does that sound right? does anyone have any experience with something like this? anything to offer/share? any info will be extremely appreciated. thank you in advance!
