My (M) 6-year relationship ended. She left me for the exact guy she traumatized me with months ago. Dealing with severe PTSD and physical collapse
Background
We were together for 6 years. We are both dentists, and we were planning our entire future together. We were supposed to open our own clinic and we just bought a car together. I honestly thought our relationship was 99% solid, but obviously, I was living in sweet ignorance.
The Inciting Incident
On November 30th, the foundation of our relationship shattered. During a party/group setting, she had sex with a guy (let's call him X) completely against my boundaries. I explicitly told her not to do it, but she did it anyway. (According to her she didn’t hear that and when she did she stopped immediately…)
The worst part? I witnessed it. I saw everything, which left me with a severe visual trauma and a massive blow to my ego. For months after that, I communicated to her how deeply this destroyed me mentally.
The Breakup & The Excuse
She officially decided to break up with me on February 25th and did it on 1st od March. Her reasoning? She claimed I wasn’t communicating, I didn't listen to her needs, and that she was afraid to communicate with me. I admit I might not have been perfect and missed some signs, but she used this as a scapegoat because she was already emotionally checking out.
The Ultimate Betrayal
I confronted her with the fact that she was emotionally unfaithful to me for these 3 months. She vehemently refused that and I believe her. But feel down I am still not sure. Within 3 weeks of the official breakup, she started sleeping with X again - the exact same guy from November who caused my trauma. She claims they aren't "officially dating" and that she just likes being with him because he "listens" to her and is "calm." She knew exactly how much that specific person destroyed me, but she went straight to him anyway.
The Gaslighting and Hypocrisy
Since the breakup, she has completely rewritten reality to make me the villain and justify her actions:
• The Moral High Ground: Out of deep hurt and anger, I acted out at a party recently and touched another girl. My ex used this to claim I "disrespected her" and that my behavior forced her to go to X. She even tried to argue that she was "more respectful" because she didn't kiss him in front of me (completely ignoring the November trauma).
• The Best Friend Lie: Her best friend falsely accused me of ruining her vacation with her boyfriend by sending some messages. Even when I showed my ex the actual chat logs proving my complete innocence, she refused to believe me. She cried, claiming I was "stressing her friend out before her state exams," entirely ignoring the facts and my proof.
• The Coldness: When I expressed my grief over our lost future and the clinic we were supposed to build together, she looked at me coldly and said: "Just find a younger dentist."
The Aftermath (Where I am now)
I am going strict No-Contact. We have one final meeting tomorrow in our office to sign the business papers for the clinic and the car and then she is completely out of my life
However, the toll this has taken on me is extreme:
• Physical: I have lost 8 kg (approx. 17.5 lbs) in just 6 weeks. I am unable to eat solid food due to the stress and am currently surviving on liquid drinks. I am trying to hit the gym daily just to stay sane.
• Mental: I am suffering from severe PTSD flashbacks from the November incident. The visual image of them together is haunting me and destroying my self-esteem. I have hit my absolute limit and am calling tomorrow to get professional help.
My Questions for the Community:
How do you cope with the visual PTSD of seeing your partner with someone else? Has anyone survived this level of betrayal where the ex immediately jumps to the exact person who caused the trauma? How do I accept this absolute lack of empathy from someone I loved for 6 years? Any advice on maintaining the No-Contact rule when the injustice of it all is eating you alive? Thank you.
