Warlock's Herald Problem

Discussion

Do we all agree that Cho'gall is the worst of the Herald Colossi? 9 mana for a 6/6 with 2 4/4 bodies (best case scenario) that do nothing to swing board when you drop them. Warlock has shit for decks rn aside from egg and that's not even 50% WR. Even in Herald-based decks, people aren't running Cho. It's way too slow for a class that doesn't have a long life expectancy in the first place. These decks aren't performing well because as a card concept, the heralds don't establish a board for Warlocks like they do for Shaman and DK, or clear board or compete for face damage like Warrior, Rogue or DH. Instead, you're killing your board state for buffs that don't matter to opponents with easy access to board clears or silence, or ignore it to go face and kill you in 3 turns after you make the play.

What that drums up to, is that you're playing herald cards not for the center piece of your class, but for Egg archetypes and Deathwing. That's it. And with Warlock abandoned last patch to deal with the Aggro Druid issue and patch up Priests, which seem to have a decent comeback right now, I wanted to give a few example buffs to help out Warlock just a little. They're not meant to be done all together, and frankly I'd be happy with anything akin to one of these suggestions.

  1. Make Cho'gall 7 mana. Seems like a big buff, but aside from being able to get this out on a turn we can expect to be alive on, there are a number of decks that tend to draw through most of their minions by turn 9-10. When that time runs through, Cho'gall's arms can't even buff themselves, leaving all the effort you used to up your herald count to have no payoff. This will still be a problem on turn 7, but you can expect at least one round of buffs on your tentacles this way against most decks.

  2. Have Cho'gall's effect target minions on the enemy board, instead of their deck. This would give it a purpose on turn 9 instead of attempting to be scary against a board that'll probably kill you. So have Cho'gall be a 9 mana body that devours 2 random enemy minions to help clear threats. They could even make this be a one turn battlecry instead of an ongoing effect and I'd be fine with it.

  3. Have Cho'gall soldiers start at 2/2, 3/3, 4/4. Warlocks have a decent handle on getting out their heralds with Shrine of Twilight (even if that's incredibly slow for a turn 3/4 play), so I wouldn't want the later heralds to get buffed much, but the 1/1 soldiers are one of the reasons Warlocks don't have a long life expectancy in this meta. They're not helping you compete for board without the egg archetype, meaning you have to setup for your basic soldier--something that no other herald class has to deal with, and every single one of their soldiers has more value on the turn they're played.

Standard Warlock's in a pretty bad spot right now, guys. I understand people's thoughts on Wild Warlock, but these are just a few thoughts I had on how to make the class have a chance in this current meta. Leave thoughts below. Would be happy to hear them.
