Hey r/selfhosted,

I built Vernix — an AI agent that joins your video calls, transcribes, summarizes, and answers questions during the call using connected tools and uploaded documents. Wanted to share it here because the core infrastructure is designed to run locally.

**Self-hosting setup:**

docker compose up -d # PostgreSQL, Qdrant, Minio
    pnpm install
    cp .env.example .env.local
    pnpm db:push
    pnpm dev

**What runs on your hardware:**

* PostgreSQL (meetings, users, tasks, all application data)
* Qdrant (vector search — each meeting gets its own collection)
* Minio (S3-compatible storage for documents and recordings)
* Next.js app (the full application)

**What requires external services (being upfront about this):**

* **Recall.ai** — The main external dependency. This is what actually joins video calls as a bot participant. It's a paid service and there's no self-hosted alternative without building your own browser automation for each platform. If this is a dealbreaker, I understand.
* **OpenAI** — Embeddings (text-embedding-3-small) and Realtime API (voice agent). Required.

**Features:**

* Voice agent (wake-word activated, answers out loud via OpenAI Realtime)
* Silent mode (text-only, responds in meeting chat)
* Real-time transcription with speaker identification
* AI summaries and action item extraction
* Tool integrations via MCP (Slack, Linear, GitHub, etc.)
* Knowledge base (PDF, DOCX, TXT, MD upload)
* Cross-meeting semantic search
* REST API (v1) with OpenAPI docs
* MCP server (expose your meeting data to Claude Desktop, Cursor, etc.)

**License:** ELv2 (Elastic License 2.0). Self-host, modify, use freely. The one restriction: you can't offer it as a competing hosted service.

Happy to answer architecture questions. The Recall.ai dependency is the elephant in the room and I'd rather address it than pretend it isn't there.
