CMS EM Form 3 Q 42

SpoilerScience question

17 yr old boy presents with alkali ingestion. Next step in mx?

I put Upper GI series as answer but they say EGD.

Do you not have to check for perforation first?

Ideally first step is to do chest and abdominal x ray to assess for free air and if present then you do upper GI series with water soluble contrast to confirm site of perforation. If no signs of perforation on x ray or upper GI series, do EGD within 24 hrs. This is the management I have studied in UW.

Can someone please explain? Thank you in advance.
