I ran through the dense forest as fast as I could. My lungs burning with effort. It had been 6 days since my escape. It had taken two days to reach the forests. I expected the hunters to turn back.

We all knew what was in the forest. Wood elves. They were not the same as their counterparts. Wild, fierce, brutal. More importantly they were incredibly territorial. Humans were never to stray beyond the borders of their forests.

Given I was condemned to death, I knew I had no other option. It was be hung for my “crime” or take a silent arrow to the back. I’d take my chances.

I had spent 4 nights in the forest so far and no elves had found me, or so I thought. The wound on my leg had started to grow more inflamed. It burned with every step as I stopped for the night. Sleep came quickly due to my fever. I awoke to the sword at my neck. I must have slept too deeply due to my wounds.

I didn’t see or hear the first arrow until it split through one of the men’s faces. The next killed another man. \\\[Her footsteps were silent as she darted into the clearing.\\\](https://freeimage.host/i/BoIQVsa) Within moments every hunter was dead. My mind felt weak and distant, I was losing consciousness again. The last thing I saw was her slowly padding towards me, her smile exposing her fangs as if a feral animal. I accepted my fate….
