Moon Presence’s motives

The lore for this game is probably my favorite from any video game, or any piece of extended media to be honest. It’s hard for me to really put into a thesis because there’s so many layers to this game; how different people apply new discoveries considering the knowledge the have of it, whether it be unrelenting experiments and disgusting acts in the pursuit of godhood or the ignorant and naive distribution of unknown substances in the pursuit of power. How much reproduction is a two sided coin because for as much life and light it can bring, it can bring just as much tragedy and darkness when non-consensual and one-sided, and for as much as the other side may want a child the physical risk of childbirth only affects one party.

But one thing I haven’t been able to really theorize is the Moon Prescence’s motives. It’s stated that all great ones yearn for a child, and you can see that with Oedon and Kos. Even Ron has her little spiders. Ebrietas appears to have been a prisoner for a long time, Mergo is a still born child of a great one and the fact she has as much power as she does to perpetually host a nightmare is crazy (I have a theory that it hosts it to be closer to its mother, that’s why she’s standing outside, but can only be sustained by its wet nurse, that’s why you fight it). But moon presence is doing so many different things at once I don’t know what it wants the most. You can look at hosts for the dream as its kids, but it did not reach out to create the dream, it only acted when gherman and Laurence tried to commune with it. It seems it’s sustaining the hunt, so maybe it wants blood echo’s? I don’t know, there’s so many layers to this game I could theorize about it forever.
