Feedback on this new expac
Before we head down the rabbit hole, I just want to preface this rent by mentioning that I've played Diablo 2 since the launch of the LoD expac and I still to this day hold about 16 accounts of n-l stuff on there.
No, I won't complain about how tedious it is to maintain that alive as I'm mostly here to discuss the new QoLs changes. I just want you guys to get a sense of how much of a fan of this franchise I've been for my whole life.. I’ve tried every release since then, but nothing ever managed to reach the same feeling that legacy LoD gave me. (Also sorry for the weird syntax, English isn’t my main language.)
Now why is it that I've came here to complain you ask; can't I just go back to legacy and leave D2R/RotW alone ?
Yup, I could but that's not where most of the community is at anymore and that's a very important part of the experience. Players used to come together to fight the game's harsh scarcity. I think it's always been core to the naturally emerging game's ecosystem.
What did RotW do that changed this dynamic ?
-Herald's not being player's specific breaks the point of p8 sharded games (with strangers) as they can just wait for you to draw an ire before moving to the next zone and sniping it.
-New sunder charms being Herald's specific plays into this dynamic quite negatively.
-Warlock destroyed early season struggle rendering loot scarcity useless anyway.
-Why would I even care to chase such a RNG heavy roll on a sunder when I don't need it to clear P8 TZs ?
Now what I'm saying here isn't "nerf Warlocks" and I want to be clear: I do not think this would save this new version at all. I think there's a real need for a version of D2R that is faster paced and I've had a fun week grinding my way to an Enigma with my friend (who hadn't touched the game in almost 10 years ence I even gave this a spin to begin with)
We're obviously dads now and gaming time is limited so I really did enjoy MFing in fully sharded games with the MF buff from the soul dance.
That being said, it is a completely different game. Enigma one week into it felt kinda wrong and we both quit playing after making it.
Now my only other real diablo playing friend has been trying to get me to go back to the OG D2R. The only issue is that even though I've paid for 2 other accounts upgrade to RotW, I did keep my main one untouched as like a trophy from the old days and so I'd love to go back to a version of the game that doesn't trivialize the challenge of the hunt into oblivion but here's the thing: I've stopped playing D2R in the first place because of the lack of QoLs of the stash. I was going to accept it either way but when I logged in, what I found looking at my OG D2R stash baffled me...
Why can't we also get the new QoLs on the OG version if the tabs are also now under these small annoying arrows at the bottom instead of being tabs at the top ? Hell, not only did we not get a QoL update... We got a downgrade!
In a game that used to let you create an infinite amount of mule accounts with a single CD-key, this is a throttle that has no good reason to even exist. I believe it ruined D2R completely on it's initial release.
Yes, I did buy multiple accounts to get more storage but even then, it felt like a chore to manage multiple Bnet instance/accounts: not a game.
Can we agree that multiplayer Diablo is about hunting for items and trading your way up ? How I'm I supposed to do that if I must Charsi everything extra that I have every time I want to go and MF for a few hours ?
Wasn't it enough to split the community for profit once again ? This undercooked so called expac has been shoveled down our throats with the worst fomo marketing tactics I have ever seen.
Dear Diablo devs, please give us the stash QoLs update on the OG D2R and while you're at it; give us the ability to buy more tabs with RL money on both. As a hardcore fan of your game, I think I speak for us all when I say that we log in to hoard items, not to micromanage a stash as big as a few inventories’ size.
Until then, D2R will remain a failed game in my own mind.
And please, if someone's going to argue that they did this to "protect the integrity of the original remaster", I would like them to keep Mosaic in mind. Storage wasn't ever an issue on Legacy. (Beside, getting realm downed in the middle of a Xfert but that was avoidable)
Lastly, why even gatekeep the new runewords from being on N-L upon release...?
Almost nobody played N-L ever anyway, it's just straight up 2000's fomo and it doesn't serve any purpose anymore. What’s the point to grind for items that I just end up deleting either because the ladder is over or because I don’t want to go trade it right away? Please just let the few of us enjoy N-L where we can finally rest and chill for once.
Alright, now I can finally move on with my life and until further notice, leave this remaster in the dirt it belongs to.
What do you all think ?
