Dragonscale Mage - Giving it some love

Appreciation / Gush ❤️

Man, I got this one during the sale and am in love with it so far! I love dragon-based powers and transformation concepts way more than dragon riding (because aside from a wyvern-sized mount, why even have a human on them? [What are they gonna shoot a widdle arrow or pigstick someone with a tree-length lance?])

I gotta say I delayed on it because the blurb didn't convey just how badass the baseline worldbuilding and social conflict plot device really was. There is a journey to a special location to do a thing to get a macguffin and it has been just awesome so far. The protag has a plan, he did his homework and handled the petty stuff beforehand/offscreen, the author doesn't bore you with his inaction. Really, really well done. I also love how he wrote a particular early heist scene.

I also love that this protag wasn't playing the oppression olympics for how he had it harder than everyone and deserves his whatever. He's spoiled, owns it, leans into it to be underestimated, rocks anyway.
