Teacher with M.Ed exploring International Schools in Portugal—any tips?
Olá a todos,
I’m a US citizen living in Portugal with residency, looking to teach at International Schools. Background: M.Ed, K‑12 classroom experience (Middle School English), and curriculum design experience.
I know my credentials align with IB, Common Core, or UK National Curriculum schools, but I’m trying to get a realistic sense of the market here. I’d love to hear from anyone with firsthand experience:
- Which International Schools are worth targeting for US teachers? I'm up I the north so Porto and Braga are easy commutes.
- Any tips on getting a foot in the door (recruiters, networking, timing)?
- Are there opportunities for curriculum design roles, or is that mostly handled in-house by larger schools?
I’m looking for work that matches my expertise and experience. Any advice or leads would be hugely appreciated.
Obrigado!
