Do some men not see a baby as “real” until it’s born?

Co-parenting & Divorce

I’m 29F and was in an on/off relationship with a 38M for about a year. Neither of us had kids. He said he wanted kids eventually, but I didn’t.

Fast forward: I'm now pregnant. He’s chosen not to be involved, and I’ve accepted that.

Lately, though, I’ve been seeing how difficult co-parenting can be, and it’s made me nervous that he might change his mind and come back once the baby is here.

Some people have told me that for men, the baby doesn’t feel “real” until it’s actually born, and that could shift his perspective.

Is there any truth to that? Is this all hypothetical to him, until the baby is here?
