To the Destroyer I slew just before exfil at North Relay...
You activated the east-facing exfil at North Relay, just as I was approaching that direction. I bided my time until the beacon was fully activated, and when I heard your footsteps rushing toward the exit, I decided to strike.
I was the Thief garbed in the Traxus skin. I grapple-hooked up to the platform, and landed directly in front of you. You were obviously caught off-guard, and I took the utmost advantage of that fact. I gunned you down with my Bully, and as you lay supine on the ground, I approached with my trusty and indispensable knife, and granted you the Gift of Silence.
I write this open message to you not to gloat. Nor to exult in your misfortune. Such is boorish and uncouth behavior, contrary to the high standards expected of students of Arachne.
No. I write this message to express my deepest and sincere gratitude.
It bears explaining that I was contracted by Traxus to procure wire and drive salvage, and to convey them to the nearest DCON forthwith (Return on Investment 4/5). I had, by a small stroke of good fortune, already accomplished the first portion of the contract. But, alas, the second objective remained unfulfilled, and despair set in as the timer approached its end. Thus, I elected to make my way to North Relay with great despondency.
It was as I was brooding over my sorrows, that I witnessed the North Relay exfil activate.
Lo and behold! You carried five storage drives on your person. Five. More than enough to fulfill my contract to Traxus.
I think you can appreciate the mixture of disbelief and elation I felt in that moment.
I had only two minutes on the timer. Behind me, exfil beckoned. I had the choice to make my exit, or fulfill my contract.
I chose the latter.
I can scarcely describe the rush that coursed through my Shell as I sprinted to the nearest DCON and placed the storage drives within.
Nor can I describe the subsequent desperation that electrified me, as the timer edged closer to finality. As I hastened myself to the nearest guarded exfil, I tried not to dwell on the potential loss of my belongings, should I fail to reach it.
But reach it, and activate it, I did.
If you should find any consolation in this affair, it was that I was downed by the UESC forces that arrived soon after. But persistence prevailed, and I was able to exfil with my head held high, crawling in the dirt as I was.
Once again, I offer my sincere thanks. You have given this student of Arachne much to contemplate. I shall meditate on this moment we have shared together.
Yours with gratitude, A fellow Runner
