I (26M) feel conflicted after having blocked a friend (27F) for two months because I felt ignored. How can I try to fix that what might be broken?
So this is a whacky one.
I have a friend online, talked with her every day for a year through voice messages. Would never want more from her than friendship, she's very smart and caring though at the same time very cold and blunt.
Over the year increasingly I felt like she lost interest or that she didn't respond to things I said, which felt like I get ignored and then play the guessing game of why or what I should say differently or feeling like I should validate more what she says instead of bringing in what I actually feel or think about things. It wasn't that she spent less time, it was that she didn't engage at increasing parts of voice messages without telling why or without mentioning it. Started to feel more and more resentment, partly because I know from stories that she has told that she has a lot of relationship/friendship experiences where she actually does talk about what she thinks/feels and confronts stuff and works through stuff, but with me I never felt that (even despite saying a few times indirectly that I feel like I prefer people being angry instead of saying nothing).
I feel like over time, despite my brain liking her as a person, my heart started tagging her as unsafe. Theoretically, cortisol rises more and more if you dont talk things out and suppress your actual feelings, and I felt like I couldn't talk it out with her since she feels so careless about things even though I rationally know she cares. I blocked her for 2 months after saying something along the way of 'last year was great, wish you the best, things just dont feel as good or joyful or trustful as it used to be'. After 2 months I sent her a voicemessage with the reason of why I blocked her and how I felt ignored or small or felt like she didn't care about me; I did it because I wanted to voice it out and because she has (suddenly) lost friends/partners before and I wanted her to know why it happened this time with me. She responded recently saying something along the way of 'i dont know why you're reaching out, i feel conflicted but hey these are the things ive been up to so feel free to respond to that'
Once again here I feel like she doesn't respond at all to what I am/was feeling, it feels so distant and I feel like I care about her more than she cares about me, since she cares more about other people to actually have uncomfortable conversations and she doesn't with me for some reason and just skips over stuff.
Last note; me reaching out after 2 months was with the intention to either A: explain why I blocked her (and it's fine for her to not respond, it was partly for me for closure) or B: to work things through. But I feel like now she responded and I feel like I have to work it through or feel like I need to get rid of this 'heart feeling like shes unsafe' kind of feeling and I need her to open up what she thinks or feels, but I feel like to her there has never been a problem. I felt like contacting her for sharing why I did so and for apologizing for not expressing it earlier. I didn't expect her to respond in a way that she would be ok with reconnecting but I feel odd about how I still have a bad feeling with her and feel like it needs to be fixed before I want to connect again. I honestly don't know what I can expect but I don't feel right about it; technically/theoretically, when 2 people talk about how they feel about an argument or situation that feels icky to either of them, they are able to bond better. We can't solve issues on our own sometimes when the relationship feels off, because we build resentment or build the thought that the other person feels X/Y/Z even though there hasn't been conversation about it. I feel like I can't 'renew' our friendship before talking about it
