living alone is usually good for me , except on the bad days
most of the time, i genuinely like living alone. i’m introverted, i need a lot of quiet, and socializing drains me faster than it seems to drain other people. having my own space and routines keeps me stable.
but when my mental health drops, living alone gets really hard.
i still have friends i could call, but on my lowest days i don’t actually want to talk. it’s not because i don’t care about them, i just don’t have the energy to explain what i’m feeling or keep a conversation going.
what i want in those moments is something i can’t really give myself: another person’s presence. not advice. not “cheer up.” not a big conversation. just someone physically there. quiet company. a hand on my back. a hug. human comfort.
people say “hug a blanket” or “hold a plushie,” and i know they mean well… but it doesn’t replace actual connection.
i’m posting this here because i know a lot of people in this sub are partners or loved ones of someone who struggles with depression. if your person ever goes quiet or pulls away, it might not mean they don’t want you , sometimes it just means they don’t have the energy to perform being okay.
sometimes the most helpful thing is just being there.
not really looking for solutions, just needed to vent. if anyone else relates (whether you’re the one struggling or the partner trying to understand), i’d appreciate hearing your perspective.
