Everything is SO salty… (and first month on Mounjaro)

Diet + Lifestyle

So I didn’t think I was experiencing any major changes in taste but usually I have always eaten very clean day to day and usually I don’t go heavy on the salt due to increased blood pressure. But it was my best friends birthday last weekend and it’s mine next weekend so we went to a Michelin starred restaurant to celebrate (I specify this cause they are usually crazy about having the balance of stuff right) And wow… it’s a known fact that everything tastes better in the restaurant due to the egregious amount of salt and fat/butter in the dishes but oh my god the food was on the edge of being inedibly salty (some dishes - others were better). My friend didn’t notice this at all.

It’s safe to say that the next morning I also didn’t feel too good. I’m only on MJ 4 weeks now and had my first shot from my second pen yesterday but I have fortunately not had many if any gastric symptoms - but again I eat quite well day to day - so yeah… fatty salty food does not sit well with me at all anymore

Otherwise I am so incredibly happy to be on MJ, it has been honestly transformational. I’ve always had a bit of extra weight to lose and it was always near impossible - I’ve seen so many dieticians over the years and only now do the programs they’ve given me actually work. I’ve lost 5kg in the first month and couldn’t be happier. I also realised that I more than likely have genetic insulin resistance… my dad and his side of the family all developed high bp early in life, he has always been lean with a normal BMI - in his 60s he developed T2DM - still with a normal BMI. I have also always had increased bp since my early 20s, even when I managed to lose weight at one point and have a normal BMI… over the years I requested all sorts of blood tests (and ultrasounds) and PCOS and thyroid issues were ruled out, in fact everything always came back normal… one thing no one thought to check was my fasting insulin… with all my symptoms and family history and seeing how well MJ is working for me I think insulin resistance is probably likely and if I have to stay on MJ longterm I’m also fine with that, I just hope I can work with a doctor who can support me with this.

Anyway rant over! I’m so happy with mounjaro, best thing I’ve done for myself!
