When would I be comfortable around my stomach bag ?
Hi everyone,
As I mentioned in a previous post, I had a total colectomy and now have a stoma bag. I was left with about one meter of small intestine, so I understand I may be at risk for short bowel syndrome.
It’s been over two months since my surgery, and I’m starting to feel quite concerned. My stoma output is very frequent — sometimes I have to empty the bag multiple times within a short period (even 3 times in less than 30 minutes). It feels like it’s never empty.
I’m following my diet strictly, including limiting my fluid intake to 1 liter of regular fluids and 1 liter of electrolyte solution daily (E-mix). Despite this, the high output is making me anxious.
Is this normal at this stage of recovery? Does it usually improve over time? Will I eventually feel more comfortable and in control of it?
I would really appreciate hearing from others with similar experiences.
Thank you
