Is Solar + Battery Storage Really Profitable in India?
Hi everyone, I’ve been exploring the growth of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in India, especially for industrial use, and it seems like a strong trend going into 2026. With rising electricity tariffs, high peak-hour charges, and expensive diesel backup, many companies are shifting toward solar + storage solutions. A 1 MW BESS typically costs around ₹1–2.5 crore (and ₹4–8 crore for 1 MW/4 MWh systems), but the biggest advantage is peak shifting—storing power when it’s cheap and using it during expensive hours, which can reduce electricity bills by 20–30%. With government support and increasing demand in industrial areas like Gurugram and Faridabad, adoption is clearly growing. Most systems today are containerized, use LFP batteries, and come with smart BMS for better performance. From what I found, the typical ROI is around 3–6 years depending on usage. Curious to know—has anyone here actually implemented BESS in India? How was your real experience and savings?
