Which broadband to switch to from Sky (Youfibre vs. Zen)

Warning: Long, a lot of questions, I'd appreciate anything (I'm indecisive)

Hi, I really need help with deciding which broadband to go with. I've been reading up a lot, specifically on reddit. It's actually caused me to be more indecisive as there's so many mixed reviews & opinions, and I know this is the case with most things but would really love an opinion based off my personal experience/needs.

  • For some background info: My partner and I work from home, we always have to download files, usually big ones which can take so long. We also game so need good enough wifi for us to both game at the same time with no issues. Alongside that, we use streaming services, etc. The usual. The biggest issue so far has been gaming, honestly. As well as uploading work -- can be files as big as 40gb (one time took 6+ hours to upload LOL)
  • Extra note: Not too informed on the correct terms sometimes, so forgive me, just need good + reliable internet lol

We're currently with Sky, bill is about to go up at the end of April to £41.

  • At the time of typing this, the speeds are (using the test on google): 49.1mbps download speed, 7.09mbps upload speed. Latency 10ms. Although when we game its ranges from 12-20ms.

  • Tested on the PS5 it says: 35.4mbps download speed, 8.6 mbps upload speed

Can someone confirm, that's bad, right??? Or am I just overreacting LOL.

Anyway, finally had enough honestly, been with Sky 7 years now, hasn't improved AT ALL. Constant complaints, promises to get better, no improvements EVER. Expensive and is getting more expensive for terrible service. It's a joke.

The main 2 providers I've been looking into are Youfibre & Zen.

  1. Youfibre: Heard really good things in terms of speed & price. "When it works, it works well." but dropouts are common and customer service is apparently TERRIBLE. However, heard that the service is so good people haven't needed to contact them anyway?
  2. Zen: On the pricier side, but seen a lot more good things about them than Youfibre in terms of speeds, consistency, and customer service. However would love to know more about their customer service if anyone has experience with them? Especially since it's almost double Youfibre prices.

Thought about CommunityFibre, Hyperoptic, Cityfibre - but none of them available in my area. Also considered Fibrely, I'd love to hear any thoughts on them?

I'm more drawn to Youfibre, specifically their You 1000 plan (£25, + static IP makes it £30 instead) Insanely good prices, no price increase every year, and seems really fast. But it almost seems too good to be true? Is their customer service really that bad + the dropouts?

With Zen, I'm drawn towards their Full Fibre 500 (£39.99) or 900 (£45) plans. Although pricier, is it worth the extra money for good customer service (and is it actually good?) No price increase as well. I don't mind the set-up fee. Although it says a Wifi 6 router included, instead of Wifi 7 like Youfibre? Is that a bad thing?

Now forgive me for my ignorance, but that's why I'm here I guess -- with WFH and gaming, what type of plan do I actually need? For example, would Zen's 500 mbps plan suffice? Is the extra £6 a month for Zen's 900 mbps plan worth it or unnecessary for me?

I don't think I'm smart enough to get my own router and figure all of that out, so the router would have to be decent.

Last thing, is switching easy with either company? Heard some stuff about Youfibre not contacting previous company, etc.

I think those are all my questions, open to any other recommendations also. Thanks to anyone who reads all this and helps, I really appreciate it!

TL;DR: I want to switch from Sky to either Youfibre or Zen, which one is best/worth it considering price, speeds, reliability, customer service, overall value? Which plans/speeds do I actually need for WFH and gaming (2 people). Open to other recommendations too.
