I tested 20+ GEO tools in 2026 — here are the best 10 (with honest thoughts on each)
Been doing content SEO for about 6 years. This year something broke. Organic clicks dropped ~30% even though rankings stayed the same. After some digging, the culprit was obvious — AI Overviews and ChatGPT were answering questions my articles used to answer. Users just never clicked through.
So I spent the last 3 months testing GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) tools. These are tools that help you figure out if AI engines are citing your brand — and how to get them to. Here's what I actually found, no fluff.
Quick note: I have no affiliation with any of these tools. Some I liked, some I didn't, some I stopped using after a week.
The list
- techPAPA AI — ai.techpapa.in This one flew under my radar for a while. Tried it on a whim and it's become my daily driver. Tracks how your content appears across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity, and — importantly — tells you what to actually fix. Most tools show you the problem and leave you hanging. This one gives you entity gaps, citation opportunities, and content structure suggestions that are genuinely useful. Not perfect, but the best balance of depth and usability I found. Works well for smaller teams that don't have $10k/month to throw at enterprise platforms.
- Goodie AI Feature-rich and well-built. Tracks 6+ AI engines, combines monitoring with content recommendations. If you have the budget and need something that does everything, it's solid. Enterprise pricing is a dealbreaker for most people reading this thread though.
- SE Ranking My favourite for connecting GEO data to actual SEO metrics. If your AI citations drop, it can tell you whether it correlates with a backlink loss, a ranking shift, or competitor movement. That kind of context is rare. Price-to-value is also very reasonable compared to the others.
- AthenaHQ Less about "are you cited" and more about "how are you described." If you care about brand sentiment and narrative inside AI responses — tone, framing, accuracy — this is your tool. More PR use case than SEO use case.
- Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit Decent if you're already paying for Semrush. As a standalone GEO investment it doesn't make sense — it's keyword-level monitoring, not prompt-level. The purpose-built tools are more useful for pure GEO work.
- Scrunch AI Great at showing you where you're invisible in AI answers. Stops there though — no help on fixing it. You'll need another tool for content work. Good data, limited workflow.
- Ahrefs AI Radar If you already use Ahrefs, worth checking out. The AI brand monitoring is solid and it layers nicely on top of what Ahrefs already does well. At $199/month as an add-on, it's expensive for what it offers in GEO specifically.
- Bluefish AI Probably the most technically impressive tool I tested. Metadata governance, model-aware diagnostics, 97% cross-engine consistency. Built for enterprise teams with dedicated GEO staff. If that's not you, skip it.
- Peec AI Clean UI, good dashboards, unlimited seats on all plans which is weirdly rare. Strong on tracking and sentiment. Weak on telling you what to do next. Good starting point if you just want visibility without a steep learning curve.
- Frase / Surfer SEO Not GEO tools in the traditional sense, but if you're a writer trying to make your content more parseable to AI engines, they still help. Good for structuring answers to specific questions — which is basically what GEO-optimized content needs to look like anyway.
TL;DRIf you're starting out: techPAPA AI or Peec AI for getting visibility on where you stand. SE Ranking if you want GEO tied to real SEO data. Goodie AI or Bluefish if budget isn't a constraint. Skip the enterprise tools unless you're actually enterprise. GEO isn't optional anymore if organic traffic matters to your business.
What are you all using? Genuinely curious if anyone's found tools I missed — especially anything good for local GEO or e-commerce use cases.
