Adding for those keeping track. My case was probably pretty easy since I have been married to a swedish citizen for 25 years. we also lived for 4 years there before in the 2010s, so I had already been in the system and have a personnummer.

Application granted April 7, 2026.

When they asked to submit evidence of intent to move, they asked for a rental contract, plane tickets, and a contract with a realtor to sell our house, and information about my spouse's remote work situation when we move to Sweden. I wrote a letter and explained that we will buy tickets once the application is approved but submitted my financial information to prove that I had the funds set aside for the tickets and to support us for the first year. I also showed them our mortgage statement and realtor contract to show the amount of equity I had in my house that I expect to recover and use to invest in Sweden. Lastly, we drew up a rental contract with my spouse's cousin who has a large house with plenty of space. We were honest that it was a family member and they appeared ok with that.

Let me know if you have questions about the process.
