IT Band pain after 2 weeks of running — pain moving around knee, mild overpronation — advice needed

Hey everyone, looking for some advice from more experienced runners.

I recently started running and about two weeks in I developed pain on the outside of my knee, which turned out to be IT Band Syndrome. I went to physio and started doing the work — strengthening glutes (clamshells, bridges, lateral band walks), foam rolling, increased my cadence to 170, shortened my stride, and I’m taking joint supplements (collagen + vitamin C, omega-3, magnesium).

Here’s where I’m at now:

∙	The original IT band pain has improved, but it seems like it moved a few centimeters lower to what I think is the insertion point on the tibia.

∙	I’m also starting to feel discomfort in multiple places around the knee — behind it, below the kneecap, above the IT band near the TFL. It’s not sharp pain, more like a dull awareness that comes and goes.

∙	I also mildly overpronate (no flat foot, just slight pronation). My first sign of trouble was actually pain on the inside of my ankles.

What I’m currently doing:

∙	Physio + kinesiotherapy sessions

∙	Glute strengthening daily

∙	Foam rolling (TFL, quads, hamstrings, calves — avoiding IT band directly)

∙	Running short distances only (2-3km easy pace) every 2-3 days

∙	Icing after runs

My questions:

1.	Is it normal for the pain to “migrate” around the knee during recovery?

2.	For mild overpronation — should I go with stability shoes, insoles, or both? I tried insoles (Currex RunPro Low) but they were uncomfortable so I stopped using them.

3.	Should I stop running completely or is it okay to keep doing short easy runs if the pain is manageable?

4.	Any shoe recommendations for someone with mild pronation + IT band issues? I tried the ASICS Kayano 32 but it felt like too much stability for me.

Thanks in advance for any help!
