Schizophrenic, homeless friend in Western Mass- Needs Help

[Serious decision]

Long story but I know a person (friend A) who I was friends with since high-school but lost touch with over the past 5-6 years (we're 40 now). He's had some mental health struggles and drug problems in the past, but was holding a steady job and owned a house. He recently reached out to me randomly and told me he was living in a hotel. I reached out to another friend (friend B) whom I knew had been in contact with friend A in the last couple of years, and although friend B didn't have many details because he has also lost touch with friend A, he generally knew friend A was in a bad spot.

A couple weeks late, friend B reached out to tell me friend A reached out to him and friend A told friend B that he was kicked out of the hotel and didn't know what to do. Friend B ended up arranging some temporary housing for 1.5 weeks, including bringing him to a different (close by) state to stay with him. Once friend A and B were together, friend B quickly realized that there was something very wrong with friend A. Friend A is having active hallucinations, thinks people are out to hurt him, and thinks people he has known in the past are imposter versions of themselves (I spoked with friend A on the phone and had the same interaction so can confirm).

Friend B couldn't continue to house Friend A, so friend A went back to western Massachusetts and is now living somewhere in his car with his dog. When friend A was in the other state, I called the state's emergency mental health services and they basically said we should wait until friend A is back in Massachusetts and call emergency services there because there wouldn't be much they could do in this other state. Friend B and I are trying to figure out where exactly friend A is, but I'm completely distraught thinking about friend A and his dog sleeping in the cold, paranoid, and having no one to help. He has no money as well (friend B gave him $100 before he left for gas and food money but I'm sure that was gone quickly).

Does anyone have any idea or advice on how we may be able to talk to him to try and locate him without freaking him out and what services would be most appropriate to reach out to? I'd be happy to call any services, including the police. TIA.
