Those who defend live-action are missing the point

💬 General Discussion

I have noticed that whenever I or others explain why making the show live-action was such a bad idea, they always keep using the same old excuses that "Uncle" Rick in that it's all about getting views and frankly, I'm getting sick of this excuse being tossed around like a hot potato because not only has that reason aged poorly as the show losing viewers more and more but it misses the point of these arguments: practicality.

These fans seem to forget the reason many of us wanted animation is for the practicality as thanks to choosing live-action, Rick and the production team essentially tied up their hands during the creative process as plenty of fight scenes, monster scenes, and characters, like Argus and the echidna, had to be removed due to how costly it was to make all that happen. It's also why Grover's satyr appearance is not so prominent in the show as well.

Plus, other factors like the ages of the actors (which is something Rick and the fans kept chirping on regarding the movies for quite some time). Bringing expansive settings like the realms of the Gods, Lotus Casino, the camp itself and above all, the safety of the actors since I've heard some of them and extras ended up getting hurt would've been resolved if animation was given a thought instead of trying pursue live-action for the sake of being the next Game of Thrones.

Plus, many of these fans also forget that some of us are getting really tired of how so much books (or even video games) with potential for animation are getting LA adaptations from PJO to The Land of Stories to Zelda. It's getting old, creatively lazy, boring and frankly soulless if the goal is to become the next GoT, Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.

Finally, these fans also miss the point as to why we have a problem with the show being live-action and that is how Rick essentially showed to us how much of a blatant hypocrite he is regarding animation as who is he to claim live-action doesn't have as much heft and cache compared to animation when he's a children's author and his show is still labeled a kids' show while working for a company based on animation and whose animated properties, such as their latest movie Hoppers, have garnered lots of popularity and whose legacy has endured for nearly a century.

Like, what room does Rick have to talk to say animation doesn't work because no one will take it seriously, even though his bosses have proven time and time again that the thing they were founded on has an audience that begs to differ and besides, he's a kids author and it'll be called a kids show anyways, and not a good one as by chasing that "prestige" of Game of Thrones, he ended depriving the books of a medium that could've brought in so much more to life than this borefest we got.
