I lost it in front of my son. Will he be okay?

Advice Request

My son is 14. My father (his grandfather) passed away recently. My mother passed away a long time ago. Just me and my brother left, and I'm pretty much the responsible one, so I've been handling most of the funeral arrangements.

I was going through some photos to show at the funeral. It was late, wife had gone to bed because she had work early in the morning. I thought I was doing okay but I got to a photo of my dad with my children and I just lost it crying.

A few moments later my son appears. He asks if I'm okay. I don't say anything cause I know if I try to talk I will just sound like a blubbering mess. He sits down beside me and hugs me. Now we are both crying.

I ask why he's crying (stupid question I know, not sure what I was thinking). He says "I don't know - cause you are I guess." So there we are. Two dudes sitting on the living room floor bawling our eyes out.

We talk a little. I won't go into it all. Eventually I convince him to go to bed since he has school the next day. This morning he hugs me for a long time. He says "I think I should stay home from school and be with you." I say no, he's already going to miss a day of school for the funeral. He should go today.

He says "promise you'll be okay?" I say I will. He says I can come get him if I need to.

It's all very sweet. And I know there's nothing wrong with crying. He just seems worried about me. I feel like I've shattered his view of his dad. I'm not the big strong guy who is always calm and always has the answers to his problems.

He will be okay right?
