What temperature should chicken water be?
Chickens need their water to be cool and refreshing, ideally somewhere between 50°F and 60°F (10°C-15°C), which is more important when it’s hot outside. For little chicks, slightly warmer water is actually better for them. If the water gets too warm, your flock might not drink as much, and you don’t usually need to go overboard with ice unless it’s seriously hot out.
In the winter, your main goal is to keep the water from freezing or getting so cold that your chickens don’t want to drink it. They’ll often avoid water that’s close to freezing, so keeping it at a comfortable temperature makes a big difference. The bottom line: always make sure your birds have clean, fresh water at a temperature that encourages them to drink all day long.
