RJ or rational thoughts?

The guy I have been dating the past 6 months brought his exes up constantly in the beginning. Not only in a “they did this and that shaped me as a person” way but alllll the time in casual conversations. Example: I told him I liked a picture of him, his response was “oh yeah my ex was sitting next to me but I cut her off the pic”. He also told me how much he liked going out with her and having afters, and how clingy he becomes during that. He didn’t even hug me when we did that. One of his exes was basically brought up every casual convo we had. He even expressed on his birthday about how one sent a pic with his sweater on and wishing him a happy birthday. He also brought them up with names and everything, so I know what they look like.

Eventually I had to ask him to stop talking about his exes. He did. Then I found out he still has them as his apple widget wallpaper that rotates pictures every time. I said it makes me insecure and he said nothing back.

Now a few months have passed but I don’t think he is over it. I really start to dislike who I see in the mirror because I feel I’m in a competition with his two exes. He says he stopped talking about them/ is over them and I need to let it go.

I am just not sure if these are rational red flags or whether it’s irrational RJ on my side.
