Vietnamese automaker VinFast has officially opened bookings for its third Indian model, the VF MPV 7, ahead of its April 15 launch.

  • The Product: A seven-seater electric MPV designed as a direct rival to the BYD eMax 7 and the Kia Carens Clavis EV.
  • The Booking: Reservations are live across India for a token amount of ₹21,000.
  • The "Value" Play: To lure Indian buyers, VinFast is offering free charging until March 2029 and a three-year free maintenance package.
  • Localization: The vehicle starts with 15% localization from the Tamil Nadu plant, with a roadmap to scale domestic parts to lower the long-term price.

VinFast is ignoring the "premium tech" trap and focusing on raw practicality. By offering free charging for three years, they are effectively removing the "running cost" variable for Indian fleet operators and large families.

This is a direct challenge to Tata and Kia’s dominance in the mass-market EV space. If their "Battery-as-a-Service" model goes live, it could bring the upfront cost of a 7-seater EV below that of a petrol Innova.

With free charging guaranteed until 2029, would you trust a new entrant like VinFast over the established service network of Kia or BYD?
