I got into an accident today and I don’t know how to feel about it

Rant/गुनासो

I had a really rough day today and I just need to get this off my chest.

I went to the dental clinic earlier, and while I was returning home on my scooty, I got into an accident. It happened in a school zone, so I was driving slowly and going straight. Suddenly, a Safari came from my right side at high speed (in a school zone) and hit my scooty.

The impact was strong enough that the Safari actually flipped. There were two passengers in it—a young guy and an older woman (Boju). The older woman got badly injured, especially on her head, with multiple cuts. We immediately took her to the hospital.

Right after the accident, everything felt like a blur. I honestly don’t remember things clearly. But I do remember the young passenger and another guy on a bike behind me saying it wasn’t my fault and telling me to take a picture of the Safari’s license plate. Even people around the scene were saying similar things.

A girl around my age went to the hospital in the Safari with the injured woman, while the young guy left for home. After things settled a bit, I took that girl back to her home.

While all this was happening, I was also injured and trying to deal with everything. Then the woman’s family arrived, spoke to the Safari driver, and called the police. When the driver explained the situation, he didn’t tell the full truth and said that both of us were at fault.

Here’s where things got worse for me—I don’t have a license. I’m 20, and I just got my citizenship about a month ago. I tried to explain to one of the police officers that I was also a victim in this accident, but because I didn’t have a license, everything seemed to turn against me. I was made to take responsibility for the woman’s medical expenses.

I’ve never been in a situation like this before. I’ve always tried to be kind to everyone—matter of fact, I’ve never even gotten into trouble in school or anywhere. My parents raised me well. But today, it felt like none of that mattered.

I have social anxiety, and the whole situation overwhelmed me. I was panicking so much and almost broke down while trying to explain everything. It felt like no one cared about my side.

In the end, I even had to call my dad to the police station, which made me feel even worse. I know it’s my mistake for driving without a license—I’m not denying that. But at the same time, I feel like I was also a victim here.

I just feel really disappointed in myself and confused about everything.

Has anyone else been in a situation like this?
