PPI withdrawl symptoms back after being fine for months?

😮 Advice on Symptoms

In short, I was taking 30mg of lansoprazole once every other day since 2019 (with a 1/2 year period where I manged to get the dose down to 7.5mg once every four days but never managed to fully get off it and ended up back on 30mg once every other day) The main reason why I was taking PPIs was due to other treatment that caused heartburn but, once the treatment ended, I couldn't really get off them due to bad withdrawal symptoms.

I ended up going cold turkey and stopped PPIs abruptly for an endscopy in August 2025 as the doc recommended to stop taking PPIs 3 weeks before the procedure. I managed to go 3 weeks without it and despite the pain, I saw noticable improvements with the rebound symptoms week by week and didn't see the need to go back on it. It took about 3 months for all rebound symptoms to go away to the point where I had no episodes of heartburn after food or felt the need to have gaviscon before bed.

It's been 4 months since I've had no issues with heartburn but now all of a sudden, I'm now getting heartburn 3/4 hours after every meal regardless of what I eat. I'm unsure if it's due to a recent chest infection that I had that may be causing some weird things in my body but I'm now intrigued and surprised that those rebound symptoms could come back after being fine for many months? or I could just be wrong about what's actually happening. I also can't say it's due to stress or anxiety as I've been fine mentally.

I'm curious to find out if any one that has been on long term PPIs and stopped has had a similar experience to mine?
