Hidden gems in Northeast India that most travel guides completely ignore
Spent the last three weeks traveling through Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh and kept running into places that don't show up in any popular travel blog or guidebook.
A few that genuinely blew my mind:
Mawryngkhang Trek in Meghalaya - people know Nongriat and the living root bridges, but this bamboo trail over gorges near Wahkhen village is something else entirely. Almost no crowds, insane views.
Dzukou Valley on the Nagaland side - most posts send you up from the Manipur entrance but the Nagaland trail from Viswema village is far more scenic and the villages along the way are really welcoming.
Ziro Valley in Arunachal - yes it has the music festival buzz now, but go in late November or February and it's completely empty. The Apatani villages and their terraced paddy fields are unlike anything else in India.
Mechuka in West Siang district - this one has almost zero tourist infrastructure which means you actually stay with locals. The landscape is surreal and the people are incredibly warm.
Not posting exact routes or stay details here because frankly some of these places don't need a flood of visitors yet. Happy to share more in the comments for anyone genuinely planning a trip.
Has anyone else been to parts of the Northeast that still feel completely off the map?
