I helped a friend rewrite his LinkedIn profile and it changed how recruiters responded to him
A few months ago, I reviewed a friend’s LinkedIn profile.
He had solid experience. Good companies. Strong skills.
But his profile read like a timeline:
“I worked here.”
“I was responsible for this.”
“I handled that.”
Nothing about why someone should reach out to him today.
Then he asked me something simple:
“Why do people with less experience get more opportunities on LinkedIn than I do?”
That’s when it clicked.
Most of us treat LinkedIn like a resume.
But people don’t visit your profile to study your past.
They visit to figure out what you can help them with next.
After he rewrote his headline around the problems he solves (instead of his job title), and changed his About section to focus on outcomes instead of responsibilities…
Recruiters started replying.
Conversations started happening.
Opportunities followed.
That’s when I started thinking about LinkedIn differently:
Resumes look back.
Profiles should look forward.
Curious how others here approach their LinkedIn profiles — resume-style or landing-page-style?
