Doctors/GP practices should triage patients before handing out any appointments.
I’m so tired of the 8am scramble where it’s basically a race to get through first, regardless of how urgent your issue actually is. You either sit there refreshing, calling non-stop, or you miss out and end up waiting weeks for something that might need attention sooner.
It makes no sense that someone with something minor can grab a same-day slot just because they were quicker, while someone else with a more urgent problem gets pushed back.
Why not have a proper triage system first? Submit your symptoms (online or over the phone), have someone medically trained assess urgency, and then assign appointments based on need, not speed.
I get that it’s not perfect and could be misjudged sometimes, but the current system feels way more unfair and stressful.
Right now it’s basically:
fastest finger = appointment
not most in need = appointment
Surely we can do better than that.
