TOS has not aged well and is not a great introduction to the franchise.
TOS is the OG but imo has not aged well imo and I am always taken aback when someone new to the franchise asks where do I start amd the majority would say TOS and other suggestions get downvoted.
If you think TOS has aged well then again, imo you most likely have rose tinted glasses on and are biased by nostalgia or you actually have a preference for stage play or classic television/movies which is rate these days.
The acting, the sets and the style of cinematography are all products of their time which for the 60's was amazing, at least according to my grandfather but that was 60 years ago almost.
A little about me, I'm a mid/late millenial. I grew up on reruns of TNG and watching Voyager in real time. I know the argument of nostalgia works against me but I also know that I have I am not a fan of classic tv and movies.
That all said TNG is arguable the best starting point for people to the franchise. It effectively served as the soft reboot for the franchise when it came out. It arguable covers everything that makes Star Trek great from discussions surrounding morals, philosophy and oneself and those around them.
Its cinematography is dynamic enough to be more relatable to modern tastes, the acting is less stage play (ironic sonsidering P.Stewarts background) and more inline with today's expectations.
TOS is best treated as an endgame watch or how some watch the Star Wars franchise. You watch TNG, DS9 and Voyager, jump back and watch Enterprise, SNW and then TOS to find out how it all comes together.
After that LD, Prod, Picard, DISC and Academy can all be watched.
I don't want this to just come across as a rant and I am open to other peoples opinions/counterpoints.
Thank you for reading this if you made it this far. This has been a bug bear of mine for awhile and I've had no where irl to discuss this.
TL:DR TNG is a better starting point for new fans then TOS. TOS has a time and place but not as the gateway for new fans.
